Georgia Taxpayers United -- Survey

The federal Affordable Care Act, or Obamacare, imposed new taxes on individuals, employers, medical device manufacturers, health insurance companies, charitable hospitals, and medicine. Obamacare forces insurance companies to provide unwanted or unneeded plan features on all individuals which has caused many Americans to lose their preferred health insurance plans. Further, the so-called employer mandate forced many companies to cut work hours or stop hiring new fulltime employees. Georgia’s previous legislative attempts to nullify Obamacare fell short of that task because they lacked penalties and provided no legal recourse for Georgia citizens.

1) Will you support legislation that will effectively nullify Obamacare in Georgia by
authorizing State and local law enforcement to arrest federal officials attempting to
implement Obamacare within the State of Georgia and by providing legal recourse to Georgia citizens adversely affected by Obamacare?
YES ______ NO __X___ WILL SPONSOR LEGISLATION ______

Georgia’s hospital bed tax law gives the ability to raise health care related taxes to unelected bureaucrats at the Department of Community Health and further perpetuates the State’s dependency on taxpayer funded federal subsidies to pay for its participation in Medicaid one of the federal government’s unsustainable socialized medicine programs.

2) Will you support legislation to repeal the hospital bed tax and oppose all efforts to give revenue (taxing) authority to unelected bureaucrats?
YES ______ NO ___X___ WILL SPONSOR LEGISLATION ______

Income taxes punish productive citizens and create disincentives for individuals to work harder and invest in the economy. Citizens of two of Georgia’s neighboring states, Florida and Tennessee, enjoy no state-level income tax creating a competitive advantage for those states, promoting a more free-market environment and eliminating all of the bureaucracy associated with the collection of said taxes.

3) Will you support legislation to completely repeal the state income tax in Georgia
including any and all State taxes on dividends and interest?
YES ______ NO ___X__ WILL SPONSOR LEGISLATION ______

Property taxes turn the rightful purpose of government on its head by making citizens mere renters from the state. And according to research by TaxRates.org, Florida is the only state bordering Georgia with a higher median property tax rate. Even taxandspendhappy California has a lower median property tax rate than Georgia!

4) Will you support legislation, including any necessary constitutional amendment(s), to completely repeal all property taxes in Georgia?
YES ______ NO ___X__ WILL SPONSOR LEGISLATION ______

Georgia’s Title ad Valorem Tax hike raised nearly $750 MILLION in new taxes in FY 2014 alone on top of the legacy Motor Vehicle License Tax (a.k.a. “Birthday tax”) for older vehicles which continues to take nearly $350 MILLION in taxes from Georgians each year. To make matters worse for taxpayers, the motor fuel excise tax raised taxes on Georgia motorists by nearly $600 MILLION per year with
additional tax hikes taking effect automatically in following years.

5) Will you support legislation, including any necessary constitutional amendment(s), to repeal all ad valorem taxes on automobiles and all motor fuel taxes?
YES ______ NO ___X___ WILL SPONSOR LEGISLATION ______

The Transportation Investment Act (TIA) and the associated Transportation Local Option Sales Tax (TSPLOST) would have been the largest tax hike in Georgia history had the TSPLOST passed in all 12 regions. Further, the TIA, TSPLOST, and their 12 enabling regional commissions represent the kind of consolidated, unelected, centralized power and planning that have failed repeatedly in communist regimes around the world.

6) Will you support legislation to completely repeal the Transportation Investment Act and to abolish the 12 regional commissions?

YES __X___ NO ______ WILL SPONSOR LEGISLATION ______

The United States Congress is granted the power to ‘regulate’ interstate commerce, meaning that it has a mandate to ensure that the rules for doing business across state lines are made regular or uniform.

The Founders clearly intended for this power to be used to simplify and promote free trade amongst the citizens of the several States. No individual State was to be allowed to impose its unique rules, regulations, or taxes on the business transactions of the citizens of other States. Further, one of the most important reasons for our nation’s revolution was the rejection of King George’s ‘taxation without representation’ of the colonies. Georgia’s Internet tax scheme violates these principles by imposing a unique tax scheme on out of state businesses whose owners and operators have no say in the elected representation of the State of Georgia, and costs Georgia taxpayers an estimated $18 MILLION in additional taxes each year.

7) Will you support legislation to completely repeal Georgia’s Internet tax scheme?
YES ______ NO ___X___ WILL SPONSOR LEGISLATION ______
